An injunction is a court order restraining a person from doing something — or, in a mandatory injunction, directing them to do something. A temporary injunction under Order XXXIX of the Code of Civil Procedure protects you while the case is pending; a permanent injunction under the Specific Relief Act, 1963 is granted in the final decree.
For a temporary injunction, the court considers whether there is a prima facie case, where the balance of convenience lies, and whether irreparable harm would be caused without it. In urgent cases, an interim order can be sought on the first day.
